Everyday Wonderment

A Necessity of Life… 0

We all recognize the familiar roll of toilet paper.  Invented around 1880 (when you think of it, not really that long ago), it’s another everyday item in our lives that we can sometimes take for granted – until we reach for it and the roll is empty…

Music to my ears… 5

Arriving home this cold, March day, I was greeted by music that I never tire of – birdsong.  My eyes were drawn to the upper-most branches of this beautiful, black walnut tree.  There I saw this flock of birds way up near the top, performing a winter concert for those near and far, who happened to be outdoors.

The next time you’re in the mood for some nature music, keep your ears and eyes open when you’re outdoors – a concert may be starting at any moment…

Sun in the garden… 2

This sun sits in the crook of the tree in my backyard.  Many times during the winter months when we have a snowfall, the entire sun gets covered.  This past week, the snowflakes created something I have never seen before.  It was quite a discovery to see how they had beautifully framed its face, gathered around its eyes, nose and mouth and that it had grown a lovely snow beard in the cracks and crevices of the bark.

Like a snowman or a sand castle, we never know how long we will be graced with its presence, but it sure is a gift in the moment…

Good Morning… 3

Seeing the sun rise – ushering in a new day – reminding us of the beauty of the light – a wonder, a gift that occurs every day – and every time I see it, feels as breathtaking as the first…

All Heart… 1

One of the most-recognized symbols and one of my favorites…no matter what month of the year it may be, sending love out into the world…

Repetition… 1

Brick-laying patterns – how many there must be.  For this wall, the bricks are staggered, leaving a space in-between allowing air and light to pass through, yet still providing privacy.  I can imagine the delight of a bricklayer as a pattern is repeated and their creation comes together…

Plant Life… 2

I never tire of seeing indoor plants growing and thriving no matter what the season.  Each one of their leaves is a living piece of art that can keep on giving year after year.  These are soaking in the morning sun in a window facing east on a cold, January day – sounds pretty good to me!

A Wintry Postcard… 0

Water has turned to ice.  This photo helps to remind me that there’s no denying the beauty of winter.  I love seeing the great, white expanse of the snow-covered lake,  the bare-branched trees  against the sky that looks like it goes on forever, the silhouettes of people out on the ice, and the snow that’s been shoveled preparing for fun…skating anyone?

A Winter Delight… 2

Beautiful, isn’t it!  This amaryllis flower that springs forth from a bulb that when purchased, looks somewhat like an onion.  In the beginning, it may seem like nothing is happening and then slowly, slowly, it emerges…and behind this flower – buds for three more beauties to spring forth…

Contentment… 1

A welcome sight at the end of the day…
